The Macintosh II was an Apple Macintosh computer and the first of the Macintosh II series . It was published in 1987 and was usually briefly called "Mac II".

It has a Motorola 68020 processor with a clock frequency of 16 MHz. The standard memory was 1 MB in size and made up of SIMMs . The maximum expansion is 20 MB. The FDHD expansion enables expansion up to 68 MB. The optional hard disk had a capacity of 20 MB and was connected via SCSI . The SCSI bus offers further options for expansion, so several external devices can be operated, such as scanners , additional hard drives, CD-ROM drives or streamers for data backup. Six NuBus slots are available for expansion cards .

The Macintosh II was the first Macintosh that had a modular structure and did not have a monitor permanently integrated into the housing. It formed the basis for a series of Macintosh II computers, such as the Macintosh IIx or the Macintosh IIfx .
