Mackerel Island (from English mackerel ' mackerel ' ) is an island of the Fish Islands on the north side of Holtedahl Bay off the Graham coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located west of Flounder Island .
It was mapped during the British Graham Land Expedition (1934–1937) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1959 based on the name of the archipelago to which it belongs.
