Macula (dermatology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Macula ( Latin : spot, mal) refers to a circumscribed spot in connection with the skin as a result of a change in the pigment content , blood flow or blood leakage. These changes are not accompanied by an increase in consistency or a change in level. In the English-language specialist literature, a distinction is made between the macula, whose diameter is approx. 1 cm, and larger changes, which are referred to as "patch" or "erythema".
