‣ Topic  overview

A Madison piercing is a mostly horizontal piercing through the throttle pit .

Healing and care

Since it is a surface piercing, the risk that the piercing will move outwards or grow out completely due to high tension is particularly high. The healing process can take a long time (at least three months), also due to the long puncture canal, and a complete healing of a Madison piercing cannot be guaranteed. During a three-year study by the Association of Professional Piercers , nine out of twelve people had their piercing removed during their first year because the body rejected it. The remaining three Madison piercings were still not healed after this period and only one of the test subjects was able to keep her piercing permanently. The risk of scarring is particularly high with slowly healing, wandering or rejected piercings. Particularly during the healing phase, care should be taken to avoid necklaces and rubbing clothing. Furthermore, meticulous hygiene is required (disinfect at least twice a day, only touch with clean, preferably also disinfected, hands).

Jewellery

A special surface bar should be used for a properly pierced Madison piercing . Often, however, a barbell is also used. The initial use of PTFE rods has proven to be advantageous because the rod is flexible. Therefore, it can be brought into a slightly curved shape, thus minimizing the tension that is partly responsible for the outgrowth. A ball closure ring is also often used for the first use , but the piercing is particularly at risk of growing out.

History and culture

Like most surface piercings, the Madison is a very new piercing variant without a historical-cultural background and, like most newly created piercings, was named after the first publicly known wearer, in this case after the (female) porn star Madison Stone .
