Madonna fingers

Under Madonna fingers is defined as a symptom of the disease, which is characterized by very narrow finger. The name was derived from statues of Mary , who is often depicted with very thin fingers.

Occur

In the case of progressive systemic scleroderma , the skin becomes waxy and hard and the fingers are in a typically curved, rigid position ( sclerodactyly , acrosclerosis). This is often associated with painful necrosis and calcinosis . The cuticles can be sclerosed and sensitive to pain, the fingers shortened by acroosteolysis .

When Marfan syndrome , it also comes to long narrowed fingers ( arachnodactyly , Madonna hands).

therapy

Primarily, the underlying disease is treated. The symptoms can be alleviated by protection from the cold and greasy care. The manual skills can be maintained through exercise therapy .
