Maen Llwyd

Maen Llwyd (also called Maen Melyn or Llansteffan) is a menhir ( English standing stone ) in the middle of a pasture at Maesgwyn Farm, east of the hamlet of Llanybri near Llansteffan in Carmarthenshire in Wales .

The east-west oriented stone gray stone is located below the top of a hill at the top of the western slope. The stone is about 2.15 m high, 2.4 m wide and 1.0 m thick and sloping slightly to the south. Stone packs are visible on the north and south surfaces. The stone, which is roughly rectangular in plan and cross-section, ends in a flat and square point.

It is believed to be of religious or ceremonial importance in the Bronze Age (2300 to 800 BC).

The menhir is one of several in the local area. In the vicinity of Llansteffan is also the Maen Llwyd of St Ishmael .
