history
The family company Maerki Baumann & Co. AG has existed for over 80 years. In 1932 the two businessmen Friedrich Maerki and Georg Braun founded the stock exchange bank Maerki, Braun & Co., for which they were granted the license on February 15, 1932. A few months later, Georg Braun died of a heart attack.
The lawyer Conrad Baumann became a new partner of Friedrich Maerki. The bank was now called Maerki, Baumann & Co. After Conrad Baumann's death in 1947, his widow and co-heir Lotte Baumann ‑ Heberlein joined the company as director and first wife. She brought more investors with her and the capital doubled. Around two years later, the bank was renamed a stock corporation and was called Maerki Baumann & Co. AG. In 1970 the Zurich entrepreneur Hans A. Syz succeeded the founder Friedrich Maerki as director and delegate to the board of directors.
Today Maerki Baumann is in the hands of the second generation of the Syz family, the son Hans G. Syz-Witmer and his sister Carole Schmied-Syz. The two siblings have a seat on the Board of Directors as President and Vice President. The management, chaired by Stephan A. Zwahlen, manages the operative business.
