Maeve Christina Mary Sherlock, Baroness Sherlock OBE (born November 10, 1960 ) is a British Labor Party politician and life peer .

education

Maeve Sherlock attended Our Lady's Sermon School in Abingdon, Oxfordshire . In 1984 she graduated from the University of Liverpool with a bachelor's degree . She received a Master of Business Administration degree from the Open University in 1997 .

Professional career

From 1985 to 1990 Maeve Sherlock held various positions with the National Union of Students. She was then Chief Executive (Chair) of the Council for International Education (UKCOSA) until 1997. She then headed the National Council for One Parent Families as Chief Executive until 2000. In the period 2000-2003 Maeve Sherlock was an advisor (Adviser) to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown. From 2003 she headed the Refugee Council.

Sherlock was also a member of the Board of Directors of Sheffield Hallam University from 1996 to 1998 and a curator of the National Family and Parenting Institute from 1998 to 2000.

Awards

In 2000 Maeve Sherlock was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) . In 2004 she was appointed to the Demos Think Tank. On June 17, 2010, she was named Baroness Sherlock , of Durham in the County of Durham, a Life Peer. On July 5, 2010, she was inducted into the House of Lords .
