The Magnúsarfoss is a small waterfall in Skaftafell National Park in southeast Iceland in the municipality Hornafjörður .

This waterfall of the Stórilækur ( Isl. Big stream ) is the first below the Svartifosses , the following ones are called Hundafoss and Þjófafoss. As the name of the river suggests, it is not a mighty, water-rich waterfall . The height of fall is 9 m with a width of 2 m. The waterfall is on the footpath from the Skaftafell information center to Svartifoss and can also be reached from the west side from the parking lot to Svartifoss.

electricity

The special thing about this waterfall is a small, reconstructed hydroelectric power station that has been supplying the Bölti farm with electricity from a Francis turbine since 1925 at a height of 12 m (equivalent to 9 kW). The feeding was done with wooden pipes with an inner diameter of 10-12 inches. Also in 1925 a separate hydropower plant (1 kW, head 33 m, pipe length 100 m) was operated for the farm Hæðir, which is further east, on the local Hofbach. Only in 1973 was the Öræfi area connected to the general electricity supply.
