Magnus V. (Norway)

Magnus Erlingsson (* 1156 in Norway ; † June 15, 1184 at the Sognefjord ) was King of Norway as Magnus V from 1161 to 1184 .

Magnus was the son of Erling Skakke and Kristin, the daughter of King Sigurd the Jerusalem Driver. Magnus was crowned by Archbishop Øystein Erlendsson in 1163 or 1164 , making him the first crowned king of Scandinavia . His father ran the business for the first few years of his reign. Magnus was killed in the battle of Fimreite in the fight against King Sverre Sigurdsson .

A building stone in Nornes near Sogndal commemorates this battle.
