Maharishi

Maharishi ( Sanskrit , m., महर्षि, maharṣi <mahā + ṛṣi) is the name of a spiritual dignitary in India .

Maha means something like “great” or “significant”, Rishi means “seer” and “wise”; in German one would call a Maharishi a "great sage".

The name Maharishi became known in the West primarily through Maharishi Mahesh Yogi , the founder of Transcendental Meditation .
