Maiß (unit)

Maiß , rarely maize , was a unit of mass in the Siegen hammer and steel works . It was used as a measure of weight for the forged steel .

  • 1 Maiß = 142 pounds (Cologne. ≈ 468 grams ) (up to 1766 it was 140 pounds)
  • 7 Mayß = 1 cart = 994 pounds
