Maille (unit)
The Maille was a French gold and silver weight. The measure is also known as the Troy Mark Weight . It was also used in Switzerland, later in the Netherlands and Belgium, but with different weight values (heavier). The measure is said to have started in the city of Troyes. The old French Troy mark was reckoned with 4608 grains of 0.053 grams / grain each.
The uncommon dimensional chain was
- 1 Esterlin = 2 Maillos = 4 Felin = 28 1/5 grains
- 5 Maille = 1 Gros
- 40 maille = 1 ounce
- 320 maille = 1 Troy mark
