Mainzer Tor (Miltenberg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mainzer Tor (Spitzer Turm) is a late medieval gate tower, first mentioned in 1379, on the western edge of the old town of Miltenberg and at that time was the outermost western boundary of the city. The coat of arms of Mainz Archbishop Adolf I of Nassau , during whose reign (1371-1390) the mighty tower was built, is emblazoned above the gateway . In the year of construction, the city of Miltenberg had an extension of 2.5 kilometers between the western (Mainzer Tor) and the eastern ( Würzburger Tor ) gate tower.

Due to the new building of the neighboring museum depot, city archive and youth center, which opened in May 2019, the Mainzer Tor can be entered from an elevated level via a footbridge and experienced as a historic city entrance.
