Makoto Azuma

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Makoto Azuma ( Japanese 東信 , Azuma Makoto ; born July 24, 1976 in Fukuoka Prefecture ) is a Japanese artist and florist .

Azuma mainly creates floral installations for fashion shows, luxury boutiques and luxury department stores in Japan and the USA. But since 2005 he has also exhibited his works of art in galleries and art forums. Based on the tradition of the ikebana , he creates new forms of expression. Azuma combines flowers, leaves, parts of plants and whole plants to bring them into unfamiliar contexts. For example, he exhibits frozen bonsai trees in blocks of ice . He captures his works of art, which usually pass quickly, in photographs and videos that document the creative process.

In addition to unsuccessful attempts as a rock musician , he worked temporarily as a florist and finally discovered the fascination of flower art for himself. In 2001 Azuma opened “Jardins de Fleurs” - a haute couture flower shop in Tokyo's Ginza district.
