Macro cycle
The development cycle of rust fungi when all 5 spore species are passed through is called the macro cycle or macrocyclical development cycle . These spore types are:
- 0- pycnospores (spermatozoa)
- I- aecidiospores (aeciospores)
- II- uredospores (urediniospores, urediospores)
- III- teleutospores (teliospores)
- IV basidiospores (sporidium)
If the uredospores are missing in the development cycle, one speaks of a demicyclic development cycle. If the aecidiospores are also missing, the development cycle is called microcyclic.
