House Malchower Weg 2

The house Malchower Weg 2 is a monument in Malchower Weg in the Alt-Hohenschönhausen part of Berlin's Lichtenberg district .

history

The small half-timbered house was built in the local style as a provisional standing beer hall in 1913 and 1914 by the architect Otto Besse. The evangelical parish acquired the house in 1925. Up until 1995, various facilities were housed in the house, which during this time repeatedly required numerous renovations. Most recently it was used as a kindergarten. Due to major structural damage, use was discontinued in 1995.

In 1996 the Protestant parish decided to convert the listed half-timbered house into a parish hall. Before the renovation work, there were extensive investigations into the existing structure of the half-timbered house. In the process, the wooden parts of the house were severely damaged, so numerous construction elements had to be renewed and supplemented. In order to convert a house into a parish hall, the functional and spatial requirements required an expansion of the existing space. The facade was restored in accordance with a listed building. The half-timbering, roof and windows were restored and renovated in their original condition. Some windows and compartments had to be completely replaced. The plan was to restore the half-timbered house in its rural appearance. Inside the half-timbered house has been completely and completely redesigned. The single-storey house was extended to three floors with inserted steel stairs. The hall of the former restaurant was made tangible again by removing additional fixtures and ceilings. The space can be enlarged by opening adjacent rooms. The toilet and kitchen have been reduced to the bare essentials. The expansion elements, the new construction and the materials are left simple and visible. After the renovation work on the listed half-timbered house, it will be used as the parish hall of the Protestant parish of Hohenschönhausen. Services are also held in the house.
