Malerwinkel (Gmünd)

Bridge over the Braunaubach

The Malerwinkel is a mountain stream-like river landscape and has been a natural monument in Gmünd in Lower Austria since 1930 .

Surrounded by granite rocks, the Braunaubach flows through the northeast of the urban area , before it flows into the Lainsitz , a small step in several rapids, whereby the river branches out and represents a species-rich habitat. Otters , dippers and gray wagtails are just as native here as alders and elms .

However, the sharp edges of the stone blocks show that the Malerwinkel was previously used as a quarry.

At the Malerwinkel there is the Museum Märchenhain Malerwinkel , the Grimm fairy tale , dwarfs etc., as well as dried flowers and forest animals.
