Maletswai ( English Maletswai Local Municipality ) was a local community in the Joe Gqabi district of the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa . The seat of the local government was in Aliwal North . Their territory was incorporated into the newly formed local congregation Walter Sisulu in August 2016 .

The name of the local community is a Sesotho word and means "place of salt". It refers to a mineral spring known as Aliwal Spa . The motto of the community was Kopano ke matla, something like : "Unity is strength".

Demography 43,800 inhabitants lived on an area of ​​4,358 km² (as of 2011).
