Mohamad Maliki bin Osman (born July 19, 1965 in Singapore ) is a Singaporean politician (PAP). As a member of the ruling People's Action Party , the mayor is in the southeastern district of Singapore and has been a senior minister of state in the defense and foreign ministries since October 2015. He has been a member of parliament since 2001 and was a member of the Sembawang Group Representation Constituency from 2001 to 2011 and of the.

Maliki was educated at Duchess Primary Scholl, Dunearn Secondary Technical School and First Toa Payoh Secondary School before completing his Bachelor of Arts , Bachelor of Social Science and Master of Social Science from the National University of Singapore . In 1998 he received a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign .

Career

Maliki was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Social Work and Psychology at the National University of Singapore from 1998 to 2004 .

Political career

Maliki was first elected to the Singaporean parliament in the 2001 general election. Following the appointment of Lee Hsien Loong as Prime Minister in 2004, Maliki was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for Health (2004-2005) and Community Development, Youth and Sports (2004-2006). He was then appointed Parliamentary Secretary for National Development (2005-2010).

In 2010, Maliki was promoted from Parliamentary Secretary to Senior Parliamentary Secretary for National Development. As part of his national development project, Maliki led the main working group for the Geylang Serai redevelopment project, which included the Civic Center group, which oversaw the concept, design and facility for the new Wisma Geylang Serai Civic Center.

After the parliamentary elections in 2011 , Maliki became senior parliamentary defense minister and mayor in the southeastern district of Singapore in addition to his position in the Ministry of National Development. In February 2013 Maliki published a commemorative publication entitled “Making of Wisma Geylang Serai” and started a design competition for the new community center.

On September 1, 2013, after a cabinet reshuffle, Maliki was promoted from Senior Parliamentary Secretary to Minister of State for Defense and National Development.

After the parliamentary elections in 2015 , Maliki was promoted to Senior Minister of State for Defense and Foreign Affairs on October 1, 2015 and resigned from the Ministry of National Development.

Personal life

Maliki is married to Sadiah Shahal and has two children named Lidia Syahindah and Adli Mifzal. He enjoys playing badminton, swimming and playing the Chinese instrument guzheng .
