Mamlish Records

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mamlish Records was an American record label .

The label was founded by Don Kent in the early 1970s and specialized in re-releases of old blues recordings . The original works were pre- and post-war recordings that had been sold as shellac records ( 78 rpm records ).

The re-released recordings mainly included record samplers , but also compilations by individual artists ( The Mississippi Sheiks , Lonnie Johnson , Barbecue Bob , Big Joe Williams , Ed Bell ). The re-releases have focused on the 'white' customer market, since the folk - and blues - Revival was present in the 1960s.

Together with Nick Perls ' Yazoo Records , Mamlish Records was arguably the most active label to re-release such recordings.
