Mammutland - The Island of the inventor is a 2002 and 2004 produced KiKA and ZDF broadcast animated series . It was created in a German - French - British collaboration and is based on The thick mammoth book of technology (English original: The way things work ) by David Macaulay .

content

Each episode conveys topics from science and technology and explains the physical basics of many everyday phenomena and machines through drawings and animations.

The series is set on an island where mammoths live. Together with the residents and with the help of the mammoths as workhorses, an inventor builds machines that make everyday life easier or solve problems such as a collapsed bridge or a fire. In doing so, they mainly apply physical principles from mechanics, for example the inclined plane , magnetism or thermodynamics .

Production and publication

The series was produced in 2003 and 2004 by Millimages, Pearson Broadband, Schlessinger Media and ZDF. Directed by Diego Zamora and scripted by Simon Jowett and Alastair Swinnerton. Peter Lustig , known from the show Löwenzahn , presented the 26 episodes of the show in the German version, sang the theme song and dubbed the inventor.

The series was broadcast from August 24, 2004 to September 28, 2004 on KiKA in Germany, later also by ORF one in Austria . The first twelve episodes were released on DVD.
