Management Academy Riesa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Riesa Management Academy (MARie for short) was a private university in Riesa that offered a combined state-private course. Since 2009 it has belonged to the municipal development and management company (FVG), which also operates the SACHSENarena .

Founding history

The former Lord Mayor of Riesa Wolfram Köhler was largely responsible for the change in Riesa's image from a polluted steel city to a modern sports and event location. To this end, he has established the SACHSENarena in Riesa. In order to be able to train the necessary specialist staff, he initiated together with Prof. Dr. Otto Altendorfer founded the Riesa Management Academy. In 2002 the private university started as a registered association . Initially, only the media, sport and event management course was offered in cooperation with the Mittweida State University of Applied Sciences . Two years later, the sports journalism / sports management course was introduced. From 2006 the academy was organized as a limited liability company. The PR and communication management course has been trained since October 2008. In January 2009, the Management Academy became part of the municipal development and administration company Riesa mbH and was thus the only university in Germany with its own event hall. Apparently around 70 students studied at the Management Academy each year, with the number of students increasing every year.

In July 2014 the Riesa Management Academy had to close for financial reasons. "Running a university with seven students in two courses just doesn't work," said Managing Director Jürgen Grimmer.

Study model

All courses at the Management Academy were offered in cooperation with the Mittweida University of Applied Sciences. Thus MARie was a member of the Academy for Multimedia Training and Communication Aktiengesellschaft (AMAK AG). The first two years of study were taught in Riesa at the MARie in seminar groups of a maximum of 20 students, with compulsory attendance. The lecturers at MARie were all freelance workers and were regularly assessed by the students. Thus, the quality of the training should be ensured. In two semesters, the students each completed an internship, where they gain practical experience in various companies. The students completed their last year at the FH Mittweida, where they graduated with a Bachelor of Arts . As a private university, the course was financed exclusively through tuition fees.

courses

The basic course in the first year was identical for all courses, so that it was theoretically possible to switch between the three fields of study after the first two semesters. In addition, all new students were able to complete a study trip to the USA in the first semester .

Media, sports and event management

The academy's focus was on the media, sports and event management course. This course qualified for managerial tasks in the information and entertainment industry. The training was organized in close cooperation with the natural gas arena.

Sports journalism and sports management

The course trained journalists who want to specialize in the specifics of sport. In addition, economic knowledge was imparted in order to be able to work in the management of sports clubs or companies with sports services.

PR / communication management

Since 2008, communication managers have also been trained who later become active in public relations and should design professional campaigns.
