The Bertelsmann Building is a 223 meter high skyscraper with 42 floors in the New York borough of Manhattan . The official address is 1540 Broadway . The high-rise office building is located between 45th Street and 46th Street and is therefore close to Times Square .

The building was designed by the architectural firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . It is the 42nd tallest building in New York City (as of 2016).

Construction work on the structure began in 1989 and ended in the middle of 1990. The planning for a skyscraper as Bertelsmann's headquarters in New York City existed as early as the late 1980s.

The North American headquarters of Bertelsmann Verlag is located in the building, along with the Virgin Megastore , one of the world's largest record stores. The first Official All-Star Café of the restaurant chain Planet Hollywood , founded by Hollywood stars, opened in the building in 1996.
