Theater on Winterfeldtplatz

Hans Wurst descendants was a Berlin puppet theater . The ensemble around Siegfried Heinzmann and Barbara Kilian staged arrangements of classical pieces, their own pieces, novellas , fables and fairy tales . In 37 years of theater work, over 60 productions were developed and around 800,000 spectators were reached in 8500 performances.

history

Founded in 1981 by Siegfried Heinzmann, Barbara Kilian and Manfred Wegner, the puppet theater had a venue in the Mehringhof Berlin from 1982. In September 1993 a new theater building was opened on Winterfeldtplatz in the Schöneberg district . The ensemble has made guest appearances at national and international festivals, for example in Bochum , Erlangen , Graz , Hohnstein and Dar es Salaam ( Tanzania ). Since 2002 the theater has been working with the Spreewald primary school as a partner school, and since 2003/04 with the theater and school project (TuSch).

In December 2013 the theater building was sold. The theater should move out in February 2015. The initiative No closing of the theater on Winterfeldplatz - Hans Wurst descendants must stay was started and achieved 15,754 signatures. As a result, the contracts between the owner, Senate and Hans Wurst's descendants were initially extended by three years. The theater operators rejected a further extension offered by the Senate for reasons of age. The last performance took place on June 3, 2018. After a tender, the venue was awarded to a dance and theater group around the director Gabi dan Droste.

Concept and productions

Traveling stage with Hanswurst

The name Hans Wurst Descendants refers to the figure of the jester Hanswurst in the theater plays of the traveling troops of Germany in the 17th and 18th centuries. The name should stand for a dramaturgy for young and old without elitist behavior, but still artistic, and for wit and fun. It works with all puppet techniques: table puppets , hand puppets , stick puppets , moving-mouth puppets , rod puppets , puppet , shadow puppets and trolleys dolls based on the Bunrakutechnik .

From 1981 to 2018 he created over 60 productions, one of which was in French and four in English.
