After helping to develop the idea of a Saxon Olympic application , he was appointed Saxon State Secretary in the State Chancellery by Prime Minister Georg Milbradt for the Leipzig application for the 2012 Summer Olympics . He was dismissed from this position because he and his second wife were accused of having concluded “legally dubious” and “morally unreliable” contracts between a municipal company and Verbundnetz Gas AG (VNG) during his time as Mayor of Riesa. However, the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office has not initiated an investigation because, from their point of view, there was no evidence of breach of trust.

politics

In 2004 Köhler was elected to the Saxon state parliament through a direct mandate in the constituency of Riesa-Großenhain 1 . In April 2005 he resigned from his mandate. In his waiver letter to Erich Iltgen, President of the Landtag, he named the feeling of sitting on the “substitute bench” of parliament and “not being changed” as a motive.

In 2009 Dresden's mayor Helma Orosz Köhler tried to win over as managing director of Dresden Messe GmbH (DMG). For the job, which also provided for a temporary takeover of the sports facility and pool operations, a contract term of five years was planned with - according to media reports - payment of 250,000 euros per year. On June 26, 2009, the Dresden city council had decided to appoint Köhler, whereupon the parliamentary group "Die LINKE" complained because they did not feel sufficiently informed about Köhler's contract. On July 1, 2009, the Dresden administrative judges followed this application for temporary legal protection, which the state capital again objected to.

Köhler himself then decided in August 2009 to comment on the entire process - including his waiver of the offered position as managing director - via an "open letter" sent from Cape Coral / Florida and published in the BILD newspaper .
