In professional baseball, a manager is the head coach of a team. The term Field Manager is formally correct, but it is rarely used in everyday language. In addition to developing the game strategy, the manager's tasks include, above all, the athletic and disciplinary leadership of the team. He decides on the line-up and makes changes during the game.
Baseball managers are supported by up to six specialized coaches. The following specializations are common in the higher leagues:
- Bench Coach - the second man behind the head coach who is in the dugout during the game .
- Pitching Coach - responsible for the pitchers.
- Bullpen Coach - responsible for the relief pitcher.
- Hitting Coach - responsible for training and developing hitting skills.
- Base coach - has eye contact with the base runners during the game and coordinates the respective player in the game situation. The following two coaches are common:
