Manala Manzini

Manala Manzini (born March 9, 1955 in what would later become Soweto ) was head of the former South African secret service National Intelligence Agency from 2005 to 2009 .

Life

Manzini was born on March 9, 1955 in what would later become Soweto. He graduated from Meadowlands High School in 1975 . He then studied at the University of Zululand, where he recruited members for the African National Congress (ANC). He participated in the 1976 Soweto uprising . In September he was informed that the South African government knew of his activities and went into exile in Zambia . At the local University of Zambia , he studied Public Administration and Policy ( Public Administration and Politics ). He left the university in 1980 with a bachelor's degree . In the 1980s, Manzini was appointed head of the ANC in Tanzania by Oliver Tambo and remained so until 1991. In 1991 he went to the University of Liverpool , from which he graduated in 1992 with a Masters in Public Administration. In 1993 Manala Manzini joined Nelson Mandela's office in the area of ​​security. With the formation of the National Intelligence Agency in 1994, he became its employee. On their behalf he went to the USA as a diplomat in 2000. In 2002 he became Deputy Director General in the Technical Collection Division of the Secret Service. In October 2005, Manzini succeeded Billy Masetlha as director general of the National Intelligence Agency. In 2009 he lost his position and has been working as a consultant ever since. In 2015, he was accused of being responsible for corruption during his tenure .

Manala Manzini is married and has four children.
