The Movimento Associativo Italiani all'Estero (in German: United Movement of Italians Abroad ), abbreviated MAIE , is an Italian party that represents voters residing in South America .

The party emerged from a spin-off from the Associazione Italiane in Sud America and won one seat in the Chamber of Deputies and one in the Senate in the 2008 general election . MAIE is represented in the Senate by Mirella Giai and in the Chamber of Deputies by Ricardo Merlo .

In the vote of confidence by Silvio Berlusconi on May 14, 2008, prior to the formation of the government , Ricardo Merlo abstained (in 2006 he voted for the center-right coalition Casa delle Libertà ). In the Senate, Mirella Giai also abstained, which according to the rules of the Senate was considered a rejection of the Berlusconi government.
