Mandan is a city in Morton County , North Dakota in the United States of America . According to the 2010 census, Mandan has 18,331 inhabitants and an area of ​​26.7 km². The city was founded in 1879 and became the administrative seat of Morton County in 1881.

According to the United States Census 2000 , 16,718 people live in 6647 households and 4553 families in Mandan. The population density is 643 people per km². The population is divided as follows: 94.98% white, 0.20% African American, 3.02% Indians, 0.33% Asians, 0.16% other and 1.30% two or more ethnic groups.
