Mandela Rhodes Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mandela Rhodes Foundation was established in February 2002 on the occasion of the centenary of the Rhodes Trust in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation for an initial ten years.

This foundation began its activity in 2003 in the same partnership of the two foundations supporting it. Her aim is to develop leadership in Africa in the spirit of leadership and reconciliation embodied by Nelson Mandela and in the spirit of entrepreneurship and education as represented by Cecil Rhodes . To this end, the foundation offers programs and grants postgraduate scholarships for study at Oxford University in England. The foundation is based in the Mandela Rhodes Building in Cape Town and has its own representative offices in Johannesburg , Oxford and Ithaca (NY) . At the suggestion of the De Beers chairman Nicky Oppenheimer , the Rhodes building in Cape Town , built in 1902, was made available to the foundation.
