‣ Topic  overview

A mandible piercing ( English for lower jaw piercing) is a piercing in the lower jaw area . It sits vertically in the mouth under the tongue and emerges from below the chin .

Jewellery

A barbell is usually used as jewelry . The flexible material polytetrafluoroethylene is particularly suitable during the healing process . Since swelling is to be expected after the sting, an excessively long barbell is usually used.

History and culture

Compared to modern piercings like the tongue piercing or the labret piercing , the mandible piercing is a rather unusual oral piercing without historical references, the implementation of which is rejected by several piercers.
According to the Body Modification E-Zine, the first documented piercing of this type was carried out by the American piercer Mick Noland (1953–1998) and is also called jump piercing after what was supposed to be the first wearer .
