Manfred Roost

Manfred Roost (* 1929 ) is a German conductor and choir director.

life and work

Roost studied pedagogy and after graduating works as a teacher in Jüterbog . He completed additional studies at the Institute for Music Education at the Humboldt University in Berlin; he studied conducting with Helmut Koch . From 1954 Roost worked as a music editor for the German broadcaster of the GDR. In 1955 he founded the radio children's choir there on behalf of the German broadcaster, which he conducted from 1955 to 2002. From 1974 the choir had its home at the EOS "Georg-Friedrich-Handel" , a special school for music. In 1978 Roost was appointed professor. He went on many concert tours with his choir and made extensive radio and sound recordings. In 1989 Roost received the Goethe Prize from the City of Berlin .
