Manifesto (medicine)
The foreign word manifest ( Latin manifestus “palpable”, “clear”) is used in medicine with the meaning “clear” or “pronounced”, especially for symptoms that only appear or are clearly pronounced after a symptom-free latency or incubation period . The opposite of manifest is called latent (“hidden”) or inapparent (“not appearing”, “not visible”).
One speaks of the manifestation of a disease when symptoms appear that make the disease clearly recognizable.
Examples:
- manifest hypothyroidism
- manifest shock symptoms
- manifest liver cirrhosis
- manifest depression
- manifest ileus
- manifest iron deficiency
- manifest diabetes mellitus
- manifest delusion
