Manil Suri
Manil Suri (born July 1959 , today in Bombay Mumbai ) is an American writer and Mathematics - Professor of Indian descent .
Life
Manil Suri studied mathematics at the University of Bombay . At the age of twenty he left India for the United States. He continued his studies at Carnegie-Mellon University . Since 1994 he has been Professor of Mathematics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County . His research focuses on the numerical treatment of partial differential equations , especially with a view to practical application.
Literary works
In 2001 Suri's first novel, The Death of Vishnu , appeared in German translation under the title Vishnus Tod . Suri started working on the work in 1995. It is based on the true story of a man who lived and died on the steps of the apartment building where Suri grew up.

Awards
- In 2001 Suri won the Rolf Heyne Book Prize for his debut novel.
- In 2002 Suri and two other authors received the Robert Bingham Scholarship from the American PEN Center to support him in his work on his second book.
- In 2013 “The City of Devi” received the Bad Sex in Fiction Award .
