Man book
Mannbuch is a name for a loan book , which appeared as early as the 14th century and is first documented in 1344.
Since it was a late form of listing the feudal lords of a feudal lord , the feudal letters already common at that time were entered in the man book. In this respect it was a loan register. In addition, the coats of arms of the feudal people were often reproduced and the man book was elaborately designed in order to emphasize the importance of the liege lord over the importance of his men.
Well-known man books
Well-known feudal books are the feudal book of the Diocese of Basel with 195 sheets on which 95 hand-painted coats of arms are shown as full coats of arms (some several times). It was laid out in 1441 under the Basel Bishop Friedrich III. to Rhine. The coats of arms show the symbols of the feudal bearers of the diocese of Basel and the coats of arms of southern German and Austrian dynasts. Alsatian, Swiss and Burgundian coats of arms are also shown.
Another book is the loan book of the Diocese of Speyer . 72 hand-painted coats of arms of the fiefdoms of the diocese are shown on 261 pages. The book was written in 1465 and is in the possession of the General State Archives in Karlsruhe . According to Count Kraft VI. Lehnsbuch named by Hohenlohe was created between 1476 and 1503 and shows the Württemberg and Hohenlohe coats of arms on 84 sheets of parchment. There is currently one copy in the archives of the Princes Hohenlohe in Waldenburg (Württemberg).
