Live and act

Sefidari was born in Madrid in 1982, where she currently lives. She graduated from Universidad Complutense with a degree in Psychology and later obtained a Masters in Commerce and Tourism from the same university. In 2014 she received a scholarship from the Techweek Women's Leadership Fellows program, which was designed to support women leaders in business and technology. Since 2015 she has been a lecturer for the master's degree in “Digital Communication, Culture and Social Affairs” at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid.

Sefidari - known on Wikipedia under the name "Raystorm2" - began in 2006 to create contributions to the Wikimedia projects. In a few interviews, she said she discovered Wikipedia when her little sister pointed out that there was a website that anyone could write or edit. “It all started with you getting involved in a topic and spending hours and hours improving articles, and you realized that there were guidelines that needed to be changed.” Shortly thereafter, she started the LGBT project in Spanish Wikipedia to give visibility to these groups and to improve and organize all content on the subject, inspired by a similar movement that existed in the Anglo-Saxon encyclopedia.

In addition to her content work, she was involved in the Wikimedia movement. In 2011 she was a founding member of Wikimedia Spain and became the first vice-president of that organization. In 2015, the project "Wikimujeres" focused on a group of Wikimedia users who wanted to strengthen the presence of women in the Wikipedia project and to overcome the gender gap there. Sefidari served on several steering committees of the Wikimedia movement, including the association committee and the board of directors, both of which she chaired. In 2013 she was the first Spanish woman to be elected to the board of the Wikimedia Foundation, of which she was a member until 2015. In 2016 she moved again to the Wikimedia Foundation to fill a position advertised by the community; she took over the vice-presidency of the organization. In 2017 she was confirmed as Vice President. During these years she has participated in numerous events for open and free knowledge as well as the inclusion of diversity and equal treatment in the content of Wikipedia.

In July 2018, she was elected President of the Wikimedia Foundation at the 14th Wikimania Annual Meeting.
