María T. Martelo

María T. Martelo is a Venezuelan climatologist .

Martelo works in Caracas in a research center attached to the hydrology and meteorology directorate of the Ministry of Natural Resources. One focus of her work is the investigation of extreme weather events.

Because of her research, Martelo was appointed to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change . In 2007 she was Vice-Chair of Working Group I “The Physical Science Basis” in a responsible position in the preparation of the fourth assessment report . In the spring of 2007 her work at the IPCC ended and she was replaced by Miriam Diaz .
