Mar Mar Aye also Daw Mar Mar Aye ( Burmese မာမာအေး ; born July 26, 1942 in Myaung Ma ) is a singer of classical Burmese singing from Myanmar .

Life

She was born on July 26, 1942 in Myaung Mya , located in the Irawaddy Delta . Her parents were also artists. So she started classical singing very early and made her first record at the age of eight. The nationwide breakthrough came with her second record ( Thet Tan Paw Hmar Kasar-mae "Let's Play on the Rainbow"), which she recorded at the age of thirteen.

Before leaving Myanmar, she was a recognized and famous artist from 1955 to 1997. She was a member of the National Music Council and held high positions in the Burma Broadcasting Service (BBS).

She has published over 6,000 songs in her life, has appeared in three films and wrote two novels. She is also the founder of the Aye Singing Academy, the Aye Musical Enterprise and the Mar Aye Foundation.

Since emigrating to the USA in 1998, she has devoted herself to researching Burmese music and travels abroad to introduce Burmese groups in exile to her music. On the BBC's Burmese program, she discusses various topics on the program Pyaw Pya Sa Ya Dwe Le Ta Bon Gyi Shi The De (“I Still Have So Much to Tell You”).

In 2007 she dedicated a song entitled A-thae Nar Kabar Makyae (“Heartache to last till the World's Annihilation”) to the participants in the Saffron Revolution . She also released a campaign song against the national referendum in Myanmar called "Vote No!" and a song for the victims of Tropical Storm Nargis .
