Mara Lake

The Mara Lake is a lake in the Shuswap Country the Canadian province of British Columbia . It is located immediately south of Sicamous parish and north of Enderby parish . The Shuswap River , which rises in the Monashee Mountains and flows eastwards, flows as a tributary . The drainage is formed by the Sicamous Narrows , which are a short channel-like flowing water and flow into Shuswap Lake ; at Sicamous they pass the Trans-Canada Highway and the main line of the Canadian Pacific Railway . All of these waters belong to the catchment area of ​​the South Thompson River , which is the outflow of Little Shuswap Lake .

The lake can be reached by ship from Shuswap Lahich and is a popular place for boating; except for Mara Provincial Park, its banks are on the Mara Point Site of Shuswap Lake Marine Provincial Park .

Origin of name

The lake is named after John Andrew Mara , a trader, rancher, and politician from Toronto.

From June 1915 to July 1917, an internment camp consisted of tents and barracks on Mara Lake.

Nearby towns

The Sicamous region is visited by many tourists every summer. An estimated 90% of the population of nearby Swansea Point is only present seasonally, plus thousands of visitors in July and August.
