The Osoyoos Lake is an artificial lake in the Canadian province of British Columbia and in the State of Washington . The name Osoyoos is derived from the word sẁiẁs ("constriction of the waters") from the local Okanagan (Syilx'tsn).
The cities of Osoyoos (British Columbia) and Oroville (Washington) are on the lakeshore . The lake level reaches a maximum height of 278.22 meters and a minimum of 277.20 meters. The average outflow of the lake into the Okanogan River near Oroville over 62 years is 19.3 m³ / s. The maximum was determined in 2004 with 38 m³ / s. The Osoyoos Lake Veteran's Memorial Park (formerly Osoyoos Lake State Park ) of Oroville right on the shore.
An international lake
Osoyoos Lake and its outflow or main tributary, the Okanogan River (called Okanagan River in Canada), both of which lie in the Columbia Basin , are the subject of international agreements on water rights made by the International Joint Commission . The committee to oversee the IJC's agreements is the International Osoyoos Lake Board of Control, which is comprised of representatives from Environment Canada , the Ministry of Water of British Columbia, Land Air Protection, the US Army Corps of Engineers , the United States Geological Survey as well Advisors from the business world.
