Marangu
Marangu is a village with around 2,500 inhabitants (2005 estimate) at the foot of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania , not far from the border with Kenya .
The importance of the place lies in the fact that the main entrance for all visitors to Kilimanjaro National Park and the headquarters of the national park administration are located here. It is the starting point of the so-called 68 km long Marangu Route (also called Coca-Cola Route ) to the summit of Kibo . There is therefore a good infrastructure and regular bus connections to the provincial capital Moshi, about 40 kilometers away .
A famous resident was Yohani Kinyala Lauwo , presumed mountain guide of Hans Meyer when the mountain was first ascent in 1889.
