The Marathon Motors Engineering, Plc. is a joint venture between the Hyundai Motor Company and the former long-distance runner Haile Gebrselassie , based in Addis Ababa , Ethiopia .

The company has been the official general importer of the South Korean group since the company was founded.

The construction and completion of the assembly plant was planned for 2016. In January 2017, planning for the purchase of the property was still ongoing.

A corresponding contract was signed at the end of May 2017

The facility, designed for passenger cars and trucks, opened in February 2019. The capacity was given as 5000 or 10,000 vehicles.

Around 200 people are employed in the plant.
