Marcel Gebelin

Marcel Gebelin (born June 24, 1907 in Nîmes ; † unknown) was a French football player and coach .

Career

The midfielder Gebelin grew up in Nîmes, where he began playing football in his youth with the city club SC Nîmes . From 1926 on he played for the Entente Perrier from the neighboring town of Vergèze before he went to FC Sète in 1928 . For his new club, he entered the highest amateur league Division d'Honneur , which was the highest division due to the lack of a national professional league . In a time when substitutions and substitutions were not possible, he could not establish himself at Sète and in 1929 moved to his ex-club SC Nîmes, which belonged to the same league.

With Nîmes, Gebelin reached in the course of the 1931/32 season qualification for Division 1 , which was created in 1932 as a national professional league. As a regular player, he belonged to the first division team in the club's history, but decided in 1934 to move to local rivals Olympique Alès despite his place in the team . For Alès two more first division years followed, at the end of which he could not prevent the fall in the second division; with relegation in 1936, after 93 games, his official career in the elite class of French football was ended at the same time. Although he then retained his regular place, he left the second division in 1937 and returned to the now third-class club from Nîmes; this had meanwhile taken the name Olympique Nîmes . In 1938 they returned to the second division before regular gaming came to a standstill in 1939 with the start of the Second World War .

From the 1939/40 season onwards, Nîmes took part in the unofficial hosting of the championship, which means that Gebelin was part of the also unofficial first division again. In 1940 the still active player was also given responsibility as the team's coach. He held this position as a player-coach until he gave up both his coaching and playing roles in 1942 at the age of 35.
