Marcel Sommelet

Marcel Sommelet (born January 16, 1877 in Langres ; † October 17, 1952 there ) was a French chemist ( organic chemistry ).

Sommelet was the son of a pharmacist, in 1902 received a degree in pharmacy in Paris and was in 1906 Auguste Běhal in Paris doctorate . He was a lecturer at the Sorbonne at the Faculty of Pharmacy and from 1934 Professor of Organic Chemistry. He is the namesake of the Sommelet synthesis (1913, conversion of alkyl halides into alkyl aldehydes) and the Sommelet-Hauser rearrangement .
