Marcel Verhoff

Marcel Alfred Alfons Verhoff (* 1970 in Gießen ) is a German forensic doctor and has been director of the Institute for Forensic Medicine at the University Hospital in Frankfurt am Main since 2013 .

Marcel Verhoff studied human medicine at the University of Giessen . After completing his studies in 1998, he completed further training at the Institute for Pathology at the BG Clinics Bergmannsheil with Klaus-Michael Müller and then worked in 1999 at the Westphalian Center for Psychiatry with Theo Payk . He did his doctorate with Ewald Heerd with a thesis on epidermal Langerhans cells . From the beginning of 2000 to September 2013 he was employed at the Institute for Forensic Medicine at the University of Giessen. In August 2003, he was certified as a specialist in forensic medicine. He completed his habilitation in forensic medicine in July 2007 with the text human specificity, length of stay, traces of injury, identity features and the concept of corpse as problematic issues in forensic osteology . In 2009 he became an adjunct professor at the University of Giessen. On October 1, 2013, he became head of the Institute for Forensic Medicine at the University Hospital in Frankfurt .

The main focus of his scientific work is the identification of the perpetrator through forensic DNA analysis , the determination of the time spent lying in the corpse and the assessment of bony structures. Verhoff also appeared on Medical Detectives . In 2002 he published an introduction to forensic anthropology with Kerstin Kreutz . In September 2007 he was awarded the Konrad Handel Foundation Prize for Forensic Medicine, the most important prize for forensic science in German-speaking countries. Since May 2020 he has been publishing the podcast Forensic Medicine - Poetry and Truth together with Vanessa Nischik .
