Marco Antonio dos Santos or Marquinho for short (born November 11, 1966 in São Paulo , Brazil ) is a former Brazilian professional footballer .
The attacking midfielder and excellent free-kick taker began his career in 1985 with Associação Atlética Ponte Preta in Campinas. He then moved to SC Internacional in Porto Alegre in 1989 , from where he started his international career in 1990. He played for the next few years in Peru, Austria, Mexico and the United States and won several championships with his teams.
In Peru, he was voted Most Valuable Player of the League in 1992, and in 1997 Best Foreign Player. Marquinho celebrated his greatest international success in 1994 when he not only won the Austrian championship with SV Austria Salzburg , but also made it to the final of the UEFA Cup .
