Marco della Robbia

Marco Giovanni della Robbia (* 1468 in Florence , † after 1532) was an Italian sculptor and Dominican .

Marco della Robbia was the second son of the sculptor Andrea della Robbia and his wife Giovanna di Piero di Ser Lorenzo di Paolo. He was trained by his father. After completing his apprenticeship, he joined the Dominicans and took the religious name Mattia there. As a Dominican he continued to be artistically active and carried out a number of works for various churches. He belonged to the third generation of the important Florentine family of artists. His works are solidly executed and are entirely in the tradition of the della Robbia workshop.
