Marco Ruffo

Marco Ruffo , also Mark Frjasin ( Russian Марк Фрязин ), (born before 1485; died after 1495) was an Italian architect of the 15th century.

He lived in Russia , among other places, and helped build the Moscow Kremlin . In Russia, Ruffo was commonly called Mark Frjasin ( Russian Марк Фрязин ). Frjasin was a pseudo-surname derived from the Old Russian word frjas for "foreigner". This name was given to many foreigners living in Russia without distinction. At least three other Italian Kremlin architects of the 15th century were called Frjasin: Anton Frjasin ( Antonio Gilardi ), Bon Frjasin (real name unknown) and Alewis Frjasin ( Aloisio da Milano ).

Marco Ruffo was in Moscow between 1485 and 1495 at the invitation of Grand Duke Ivan III. active. Before that he worked as a military architect in Milan . There he met the Venetian ambassador, who was commissioned by Ivan III. I was looking for construction workers for the Kremlin, and in this way came to Moscow. Several Kremlin towers , including the Redeemer, Beklemischew and Nikolausturm , were built there based on his design . 1491 also found Ruffo the Faceted Chamber of the Kremlin together with his compatriot Pietro Antonio Solari finished.

In 1991 the 500th anniversary of the Facet Palace was celebrated in Moscow; a descendant of Marco Ruffo, Prince Rufo Ruffo , was present.
