Marco Vinicio Cerezo Arévalo (born December 26, 1942 in Guatemala City ) is a Guatemalan politician . He was President of the Republic of Guatemala from 1986 to 1990.

Arévalo studied law at the Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala as well as in the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy. During his studies he was politically active as president of the Christian-Democratic student organization from 1964 to 1966 and shortly after graduating he joined the Christian-Democratic Party of Guatemala ( DCG ). From 1968 he worked as a lawyer and as head of the organization department of the DCG.

1974 to 1978 he was a member of the Congress and since 1976 Secretary General of the DCG. The winner of the mayoral elections in the capital Guatemala City in 1978 and the parliamentary elections of 1982 was thrown out by election fraud. In the elections to the Constituent Assembly in 1984, the DCG achieved the best result of the parties and even won an absolute majority in the parliamentary elections on November 3, 1985.
